A national model for the reform of adolescent
education, Bard High School Early College Queens seeks physics applicants interested in working with
a diverse group of New York City students in a program that enables them to move in four years from
ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an Associate of Arts degree from Bard
College, as well as a New York State Regents diploma.
We seek to hire a physicist from any
subfield who is interested in teaching and in developing a research program. The successful
applicant will have college teaching experience, will hold the Ph.D. in most cases, and will be a
skilled educator interested in engaging and challenging early college students. (Please note: U.S.
citizenship or permanent resident status is required.) In addition to introductory college physics
and electives, s/he will teach physics in our innovative high school science program, which is
designed to engage students with scientific research.
Applicants should be prepared to work
collaboratively with colleagues in developing and teaching an innovative science curriculum.
Interdisciplinary interests and strengths (e.g. in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or computer
science) are desirable. In addition, all faculty actively participate in the life of the school,
advising students, serving on committees, or sponsoring extracurricular activities.
